myFamilyChannel has spent the last several years carefully researching and painstakingly testing a unique solution to combat isolation and loneliness of assisted living residents. We have hundreds of satisfied users and find ourselves at a critical juncture. We need to rapidly scale our platform to serve a broader customer base. The best way to serve our customers is with the guidance and experience of a seasoned operations leader.

As fortune (or fate) would have it, we didn’t have to look far. We’re thrilled to have JT Smith join our team as interim Chief Operating Officer. Full disclosure: he’s the brother of mFC founder and CEO Todd Smith.

“We’ve been in R&D mode up until now and didn’t need deep operational competency,” Todd said. “I’m more like the creative, product design/ user experience guy, but I don’t have the skill set when it comes to things like process engineering and logistics. JT has a strong services and operations background.”

JT recently retired from an executive post with Philips – the Philips – after 14 years with the company. While people often associate the brand with light bulbs and TVs, Philips actually shed those business lines to focus on a single strategy – healthy living. The $22 billion behemoth is now a health technology company and industry leader in the arenas of personal health, diagnosis and treatment, connected care and health informatics.

JT most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Philips North America and previously was Senior Vice President of the company’s Americas Customer Service division. Prior to working at Philips, JT was a Six Sigma Master Black Belt at GE and leader of the Global Six Sigma Center of Excellence. He is laser focused on the customer and has a history of driving growth and customer satisfaction simultaneously.

Already, JT is hard at work defining and improving processes to prepare myFamilyChannel for expansion. He’s in the process of hiring a Director of Operations and automating customer communication to enhance the customer experience and drive sales. He also shares his brother’s vision for the potential myFamilyChannel holds to improve people’s lives and said he is honored to be working alongside Todd.

“Todd has such an incredible vision and passion for reducing isolation and loneliness among seniors,” JT said. “Lots of people have tried to connect seniors with technology without success. But Todd and the mFC team have broken the technology barrier so that older adults can enjoy some of the benefits of social media in an easy and non-intimidating way.”
